Level 2 Award in Fire Safety

This unit is for ‘employees and fire wardens.’ It is particularly pertinent for those who have specific responsibilities for fire safety but would increase fire safety awareness and skills for other employees. It will also provide candidates with sufficiently detailed fire safety knowledge to undertake specific fire safety roles in the workplace to assist their employer in managing fire risk.


Students will be able to:

  • Explain the nature of fire and how it can spread
  • Identify hazards associated with fire
  • Understand the process of risk assessment and fire prevention
  • Explain applicable aspects of the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005
  • Describe structural fire resilience especially fire doors and protected areas
  • Identify various fire fighting measures including the safe use of portable fire fighting equipment
  • Explain the important facets of an Emergency Plan including Personal Emergency Evacuation Plans (PEEP’s)
  • Understand the importance of fire training, practice evacuations and equipment maintenance

  • Understand the role of the nominated fire warden
