Fire Safety Awareness

Mandatory training for all Care Staff providing important reminders of the correct way to respond in the event of discovering a fire or hearing the alarm. A practical session involving student participation. Specific hazards associated with all areas of work e.g. Kitchen, Laundry etc. are highlighted.  The course can include practical hazard spotting exercises and tour of the facility looking at emergency exits, fire extinguishers and alarm actuation points etc.  The three principles of Fire Prevention, Fire Containment and Emergency Planning are the main theme of the session.

Course Content

  • The action to be taken on discovering or suspecting a fire
  • The action required on hearing the alarm
  • How to raise the alarm and the location of call points and alarm indicator panels
  • The correct method of calling the Fire Brigade
  • The location and use of fire fighting equipment
  • Knowledge of the escape routes
  • Appreciation of the importance of fire doors
  • Personal Emergancy Evacuation Plan (PEEP’s) How to move the elderly, infirm and others requiring assistance in the event of an evacuation
  • Fire prevention-everyone’s responsibility
  • Safe working practice
  • Legal requirements – The Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 – Duties of  ‘Responsible Persons’ and ‘Relevant Persons’ explained
